I received an amazing testimonial from one of my gorgeous clients a few days ago so I thought I’d post it today. You’ll love it, her little boy – only 4 years old – went through the treatment as he was constantly covered in sore, itchy hives, poor little mite. Interestingly one of her other sons went through the course to support his little brother and his persistent blocked nose and sinus problems cleared up too!

“HIVES!
Months of hives daily is what my four year old son has put up with! I tried all sorts and was at my wits end! I found Lynsey through Facebook and we have never looked back! We were lucky and it seems to be only a couple of things that actually break him out and we found it quite quickly, I guess for some it might take longer. He was a really picky eater as he also had digestive problems but now his appetite is enormous! And no hives! He’s even trying some new foods which he never does.

Lynsey knows her stuff, she is a very clever woman and passionate about what she does, she took us through an elimination diet which was tough but it’s not for ever, if you want to get sorted she can really help and WANTS to help, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her and will definitely be following her Facebook page and turning to her for advice in the future.

P.s we have been having green smoothies in the morning! Wow! Sets you up for the day!”

So there you have it. A really simple and effective treatment safe for the whole family xx

Histamine Attack

I get many people contacting me to solve symptoms that can seem like a mystery. Stuffy nose, post nasal drip, skin itching, runny, irritated or puffy eyes and persistent itchy cough or wheezing. Other symptoms can include diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches, and abdominal pain.

I often see cases of eczema misdiagnosed by doctors too…the culprit? Histamine intolerance.

Foods naturally contain a chemical called histamine. Similarly, the body releases histamine, along with other chemicals, when it is faced with an allergic reaction.

Different foods contain different levels of histamine and usually wouldn’t cause a problem for most people because of a clever little enzyme called diamine oxidase. Diamine oxidase breaks down the histamine in foods which contain it. Some people, however, have a low level of this enzyme so can’t break down the histamine leading to an allergic reaction being triggered.

High histamine foods include:

Champagne, wine, beer and cider
Pickled foods
Vinegar
Processed meats like sausage, ham, chorizo and salami
Mushrooms
Tinned vegetables
Yeast extract
Chocolate
Tinned and smoked fish

Other types of foods, even though they are low in histamine contain enzymes which stimulate your body into releasing it. These include:

Tomatoes
Nuts
Egg white
Shellfish
Pineapple
Kiwi
Aubergines
Spices
Strawberries
Tangerines

This is not an exhaustive list, there are many other foods which can be histamine liberators, as I’ve just described, or foods that have high histamine content themselves. Histamine intolerance can take time and is a little more difficult to get to the bottom of than other health issues, but with good management we can have you right as rain.

If you’re suffering from health condition you’re finding it hard to get to the bottom of, get in touch for a chat. A dietary approach could help!

It’s in our fooooood!!! AAAGHHHH! The Gut Flora Killers…

Antibiotics are heavily overprescribed by doctors, especially for our children. Sore throats, colds, flu, ear infection…none of these will get better because of antibiotics. Most of the time they simply run their course. Complications from these common illnesses are very rare, and if a complication was to occur then obviously take action. However, antibiotics in the first instance are rarely the right way to go. Ok, so I’m pretty sure we already knew that right?

But, what’s the big deal about having antibiotics anyway?
Well, your body is the master of protecting itself. You have an internal army ready and waiting to fight off viruses and infections. This army is your internal “good bacteria” and they are MUNDO important. Yes you may get sick sometimes, but all the while your body is fighting to get you through it. Most of the time, you should leave your internal army to it instead of looking for ways to “heal” yourself. YOU ALREADY HAVE AN INTERNAL HEALING SYSTEM!

Putting it bluntly, antibiotics are poisons used to kill bacteria – good or bad. There are many options for natural antiviral treatments if you wanted to explore an option more suited to regular use:

http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-8990/6-all-natural-antivirals-to-kick-illness-to-the-curb.html

Fungus: In your body you have about 3 pounds of beneficial bacteria and yeast living in your intestines. When you have a healthy gut, your good bacteria keep the yeast in check and even causes them to produce nutrients like B vitamins. It’s all a fine balance.

Antibiotics will kill your good bacteria, so the yeast can then party on and proliferate in your intestines. Yeast is pretty indestructible once it gets going and it grows like CRAZY, forming into large colonies. Conditions such as candida and dysbiosi can result because of this.

The yeast can form into root-like systems, poking little holes in your intestinal wall. When this happens faecal matter, food particles and other nasties escape into your blood stream. This is called leaky gut. These toxins can cause severe physical illness, and the neurotoxins can even cause emotional and mental health issues too, conditions including depression and anxiety, as well as adversely affecting schizophrenia, ME, ADHD and autism.

By altering the flora in your gut, food allergies and intolerance become more common. Ok so you’ll take it easy on the prescribed antibiotics? Great!

But, what about the antibiotics in our food system? DA DA DAAAAA. Yup. It’s in our food. Check this out:

“Genetically modified organisms, animals who either eat GM food or who are given growth hormones or antibiotics to treat the diseases inherent in high density food production, and human consumption of animals and/or foods made from products containing these organisms are contributing to our unknowing consumption of antibiotics. Transfer resistance, from animals to humans, is an ongoing problem and one which has been proven again and again to be a reality. It is also thought that what we call food allergies may, in some cases, be an allergy to the antibiotic residue in common foods.

The medical press has been rife with arguments for banning antibiotics as growth promoting agents in animals. Salmonella drug resistance can be passed on through poultry products. Avoparcin and vancomycin are both used throughout Europe to improve the digestibility of feeds for cows, pigs and poultry. In Germany, strains of vancomycin resistant enterococci have been found in minced meat from separate butchers as well as in human fecal samples. In the US milk is full of a growth hormone known as BST. American dairy products are shipped quite legally to Europe. While US farmers argue that BST is destroyed in the pasteurizing process, antibiotics and resistant strains of bacteria have been found in both hamburger and dairy products.”

So, when i suggest cutting down or cutting out animal products, its not just to save poor daisy or to because I feel sorry for little cluck cluck chicken. It’s because its making us sick!

Factory farming is how your general “food” is produced. Yes you’ll be able to source other means if you wanted to. But is it worth it? With the abundance of plant based foods and plant based protein you may wish to start weighing up the evidence, which appears to be risk after risk after risk.

No, its not 100% bad, meat and other animal products do have positive health aspects of course, but at what cost? Your lifestyle is your decision, but it’s always worth looking more into this stuff. Times are changing.

Dairy free, low fat creamed leeks…Oh Yeah. I did.

10891943_364079523772174_7486441660802425321_n

I had made this for Christmas dinner? New Years we had a spicy carribean theme with steel drum music! I’m craving fruity and spicy.

Why not add in an old classic when you’re craving a traditional feed – creamed leeks?
I LOVE creamed leeks but I like a healthy version! This is low fat, gluten free and dairy free – but still super creamy and “cheesy”.

Fry off about 6 large sliced leeks. Set aside.

Make a roux: this is a really simple white sauce. It’s easy! Don’t panic! Just try it.

Roux:
In a hot pan melt 3 tbsp dairy free “butter”/spread – don’t burn it.
Once melted mix in 3 tbsp gluten free flour with a wooden spoon. It will go lumpy! It’s fine!

Next, drizzle in dairy free milk slowly and keep whisking until combined. Add a little, whisk, add a little whisk some more. Carry on until you have a thick white sauce.

Next add 4 teaspoons English mustard, 1 teaspoon salt, white pepper, garlic granules, 2 tbsp soy cream cheese and optional nutritional yeast (about 2 tbsp). Mix well then pour over your leeks.

Keep any leftovers as a nice cheese sauce for your tatties!

A Little Selection of Awesomeness…Just for you xoxo

Step 1. Smoothie time. Here are a few of my favourites. Give them a try!

From top left, clockwise:

✔ Tropical banana, mango and papaya. Blend 1 papaya, 2 ripe bananas and 1 mango with water and a little almond milk (or any dairy free milk). The amount of liquid you use will depend on how thick or thin you prefer your smoothies.
✔ Chocolate Madness.
2 large ripe bananas, 3 teaspoons organic dark chocolate powder (I use Green & Blacks), or you can use raw cacao too. Blend with soy milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and water.
✔ Pop Art Berries. 1 avocado, 1 cup frozen cherries, 1 teaspoon camu camu, 1 cup strawberries. Blend with water.
✔ Pitaya Perfection. Pitaya is another name for dragon fruit. This smoothie is 1 dragon fruit, 1 cup of frozen raspberries and one banana. Blend with 2 tbsp soy yogurt and a little water.

A smoothie a day….keeps you awesome. Enjoy!

“Dairy and Eggs are Allergens??” Say Doctors

The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology recently held their annual scientific meeting. We all know that dairy and eggs are up there as two of the most common allergens going right?

Guess who doesn’t? Our doctors. No surprise there then.

Just 27 per cent of pediatricians correctly identified the these foods as the most common allergens; instead, 34 per cent reckoned strawberries were one of the most common. Strawberries actually only affects one per cent of the population.
Food colourants are another very common allergen, but just 13% of paediatricians identified this.

“People with allergies, or who care for children who do, need to keep up-to-date with the latest information about treatments, but doctors don’t seem to be the best place to go” says allergist Kara Wada, who surveyed 409 doctors in the US. REALLY? No way….

Sorry, I’m being overly sarcastic but in all seriousness this information is a welcome breakthrough.

Some people just aren’t willing to believe anything other than what their doctor tells them, even faced with masses of evidence to the contrary (cognitive dissonance). This unfortunately can impede a person’s opportunity to get help and healing. Which is sad, but I understand completely that people still trust in the system, no matter how flawed. I’m NOT saying go against your doctor, I’m just saying be open to the fact that there is another way.

Hopefully this will bring yet another phase of awakening and open mindedness when thinking about alternative treatments. Or, as I see it, the original treatments.

Just as an interesting end note, the majority of doctors quizzed also confused iodine contrast agent, used for CT scans, with iodine in shellfish…. I’m sorry but, they should really know that..right?
